LASIK Eye Surgery Perth

LASIK Laser Eye Surgery (Laser In Situ Keratomileusis)

The extremely accurate Excimer laser has revolutionised the treatment of short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism. Millions across the globe have successfully experienced freedom from wearing glasses and contact lenses. At Perth Laser Vision, you will always find the latest in leading edge technology and surgical techniques.  Dr Phillip McGeorge is dual Fellowship trained, with over 25,000 successful laser eye surgeries, and is more experience than any other Perth eye surgeon.

The customised LASIK procedure at Perth Laser Vision is uniquely adjusted to your personal vision needs and performed without the use of mechanical blades — an advantage that offers our patients increased predictability, safety and precise visual outcomes.  Perth Laser Vision continues to offer the latest technology in Perth with the addition of the Wavelight Femtosecond (FS200) laser. The Wavelight FS200 represents the latest development in LASIK surgery and is exclusive to Perth Laser Vision. Customised treatment means using your cornea’s unique individual shape and modifying it to match to your new focus.

LASIK is a two-step procedure which requires the surgeon to first create a ultra-thin sliver or corneal flap on the surface of the eye, which is then lifted to expose the underlying tissue, allowing the Excimer laser to reshape the eye to correct the refractive error.

The LASIK flap is created using the Wavelight FS200 laser. As the Wavelight FS200 laser is directed across the eye, it creates a microscopic layer of bubbles at a specific depth just beneath the corneal surface. The flap is then lifted by separating the tissue where the bubbles have formed.

The exposed underlying tissue is then re-shaped by the Excimer laser with an accuracy of 0.25 micron (o.ooo25mm) to match your individual focus and the flap is re-positioned in place.  The flap moulds to the new shape and this changes its surface contour, instantly changing your vision to the new, more normal focus.

With the cornea’s extraordinary natural bonding ability, healing is rapid. The flap acts as its own “band aid” and becomes adherent within a few minutes without stitches. This gives the eye extra protection, reduces potential post-operative discomfort, minimises the risk of infection and accelerates the healing process. Patients can see clearly almost immediately after the operation.

LASIK using the femtosecond laser method is by far the most advanced technique, giving you fast healing times and rapid visual recovery with only minor discomfort post-operatively.  This technology represents the accepted standard of care in LASIK worldwide. With its excellent safety profile and superior visual outcomes, the Femtosecond Method is the safest refractive surgical technique with more than 6 million LASIK procedures performed using the Femtosecond Method.

Our experienced LASIK team will complete an in-depth evaluation, taking hundreds of precise measurements, to determine which surgical technique and choice of laser technology to offer you the best result. You can rest assured that your safety and comfort are at the forefront of our recommendations.
