WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Recovery After Your Surgery
Congratulations, your procedure is done! Now comes the healing period, when your eyes gradually adjust and vision improves. While each person heals at their own pace, following our recovery guidelines will help you reach your best outcome.
Once surgery is completed, your eyes may feel a bit gritty, watery, or sensitive to light. Your vision may appear blurry or hazy at first, which is perfectly normal. We’ll place protective shields or patches on your eyes to guard against accidental rubbing or injury.
Healing in the First Few Weeks
In the first 1–3 days, your eyes begin healing. You’ll use prescribed antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and lubricating eye drops regularly. Most patients experience fluctuations in clarity, mild discomfort, and dryness, particularly as the numbing drops wear off. Resting your eyes, avoiding screens, and keeping your environment clean and low-light all help.
Over the next few weeks, vision typically stabilises further. Many of the early side effects, glare, halos, sensitivity, or mild haze, begin to fade. Light activity is usually okay, but avoid things like swimming, contact sports, dusty or smoky environments, and rubbing your eyes. Sunglasses become your best friend when outdoors, both for comfort and protection.
Ongoing Healing & Final Visual Stability
By the second to third month, most patients’ vision has settled close to its final clarity. Some fine improvements may continue beyond that, especially at night. It’s important to attend all scheduled follow-up appointments so we can monitor healing, manage any issues, and confirm your results.
Recovery Tips & Do’s and Don’ts:
- Use your eye drops exactly as directed, consistency is key
- Don’t rub or press your eyes under any circumstances
- Sleep with your eye shields on for the first few nights
- Avoid applying any eye makeup for at least a week (or longer if your surgeon advises)
- Skip swimming, spas, and dusty environments until cleared
- Wear sunglasses outside, even on cloudy days
- Return to work or screen use gradually, ease it in
